STDs – Sexually Transmitted Diseases
The diseases that are passed from one person to another through sexual activities are known as sexually transmitted diseases or STDs. These diseases can be caused by bacteria, as well as viruses. Many people who have such diseases are not even aware of them. The severity of these health issues can be different depending on the intensity of the disease.

Chlamydia is well-known sexually transmitted diseases. Chlamydia trachomatis is the bacteria that cause this disease. In the recent years, there has been a rise in the number of people suffering from this disorder. Chlamydia can be present inside the vagina, penis or rectum. Traces of the bacteria are found in semen and vaginal fluid. The disease can spread through these fluids as a result of unprotected sex. It can also be passed through oral sex. The symptoms of this disease differ between men and women. However, this disease can be easily cured.
Genital herpes are caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus or HSV. Many people who suffer from this disease do not experience any kind of symptoms. This disease is quite common and about one in five people in the United States suffer from it. It has been seen that almost eighty percent of people who have suffered from genital herpes in the past will face a second outbreak. The disease may not be completely treated, but through regular treatment the symptoms can be controlled and outbreaks can be prevented.
HIV infection is another well known health issue that is transmitted sexually. This leads to AIDS or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome which is a highly dangerous disease and is one of major causes of death throughout the world. This condition results in the gradual deterioration of the human immune system and infections that are life threatening. HIV infection is the first stage of AIDS. The general symptoms of this disease are fevers, chills, swollen lymph gland, loss of weight, night sweats and weakness. This infection can be diagnosed through various tests.
Another sexually transmitted disease that affects many people is gonorrhea. It can affect both men, as well as women. In the United States, about one million people are infected by this disease every year. Many of these cases go totally unreported. The disease can become fatal if it is not treated. The gonorrhea symptoms are generally seen within 3 weeks of the infection. The bacterium that causes this disease is called Neisseria gonorrheae. It grows in the moist and warm parts of the reproductive organs. Several drugs are there that can be used for the treatment of this disease.
Syphilis is also a common disease that is transmitted sexually. If this STD is , then it is important to see the doctor, who can perform a syphilis test. Like many other sexually transmitted diseases, it often does not show any symptoms. Syphilis can be spread through vaginal, oral or anal sex. If left untreated, this disease can lead to serious health problems. The bacteria that cause this disease are called Treponema pallidum. It can result in mental disorders, blindness or even death in serious cases. 
Hepatitis B infection can also occur due to sexual activities. This infection is one of the major factors that result in chronic diseases of the liver. The symptoms of this infection can vary from one person to the other. However, the general signs include headache, fatigue, vomiting, muscle pain, joint pain, sore throat and cough.
Trichomoniasis is also well known as a wide spread STD. Both men and women can be affected by it, but the risk is higher in case of women. This infection often takes place in the vagina of a woman. Trichomonas vaginalis is a parasite that causes this infection. Every year more than 7 million American are reported to have this disease. Most of the infected people are between the ages of 16 and 35. Lab tests and physical examinations are done to diagnose this disease. The doctor can prescribe certain drugs for the treatment.
